For Visitors

Materials held at Hitotsubashi University libraries are available for viewing by external users to the extent that the same does not hinder learning or educational/research activities at the University.

Use of the Library

Scope of Use

Procedures for Use

  1. Fill in an Application Form for Guest at the reception counter.
  2. Indicate the name of the materials to be used.
  3. Show your identification.
  4. You will be provided with a one-day library entry ID. Use the card when entering and exiting the library and return it when you leave.

Notes

  • The Hitotsubashi University Library is only available to visitors who will study or research using materials in the library. Users seeking to use only the facilities will not be admitted.
  • The reading rooms and group study rooms with no shelves may not be used.
  • Exam preparation books, work/exercise books and textbooks up to high-school level may not be brought into the library.
  • Some materials may not be available due to their being on loan or out for repair or binding.
  • During and immediately before exam periods, priority will be given to serving Hitotsubashi University staff/students. Depending on the degree of congestion, entering may be denied.
  • Databases and e-resources that are contractually restricted to use only by Hitotsubashi University staff/students may not be used.
  • We do not hold any materials on reserve. Please contact your institution’s library if you need holding them.

Wireless LAN

  • You can use the wireless LAN by eduroam. You need to get an eduroam ID at your institution in advance.
Notes

  • Hitotsubashi University does not issue eduroam ID.
  • You can not access our licensed e-resources via eduroam.

Use of Materials

Please apply at the counter for retrieval of materials that are held in the stack area, valuable materials room, or microform room. Please check the application times.
CD-ROMs shelved at the counter can be used from 9:00-17:00 on weekdays.

Academic Theses

Graduation theses, master’s theses, and credit-earning theses for doctoral courses are works that are yet to be made public, and viewing is limited to Hitotsubashi University staff and students.
Approval of the author will be required for use by any other party.
Approval of the author will also be required for any copying, irrespective of the department the user belongs to. Please inquire in advance at the library if you wish to use such materials.

Valuable Materials

  • Use of valuable materials requires a reservation made at least the day before. Click here for details.
  • For valuable materials that are displayed in the online catalog as being located at “CHSSL Social Science Literature" or “Center for Historical Social Science Literature", please inquire at the Center for Historical Social Science Literature.

To search the library’s collection, please use the following search systems.

HERMES-SearchSearch from the university’s print collection, e-journals, e-books, and various bibliographies. Search for articles by title and/or authors is also available.
HERMES-CatalogSearch the library’s print collection. E-books can also be searched. You can search for journal titles, but not for journal articles or their authors.
e-Journal / e-Book ListYou can search by title or ISSN/ISBN. You can also display an alphabetical title list or a title list by genre.
Database ListYou can search databases by title, purpose, or field.

Notes

  • Some materials (e.g., theses) are restricted to university members only, and others may not appear in the search results.
  • E-journals, e-books, and databases subscribed to by the university are not accessible.

Interlibrary services

We do not accept requests for holding materials on reserve or interlibrary loans or photocopying from individuals. If you need to loan or get photocopies of our materials, please contact us via libraries of your institutions.

Use of the Library

  • If you are a member of a university or research institute, and you need to reserve materials or conduct reference research in advance, please make a request to the library or office of your institution.
  • If you do not fall under the above category, please refer to here.

Interlibrary loan

  • Please contact a librarian of your institution (university, research institution, etc.).

Photocopying

  • Please contact a librarian of your institution (university, research institution, etc.).
  • If you do not belong to such institutions, please ask a librarian at your local public libraries.

For librarians

  • Please contact the Help Desk email address below at least 3 business days prior to the desired date of the visit to inquire about using the materials.
  • We lend books to only NACSIS-ILL payment system participants. Please send a request via NACSIS-ILL system. If your library does not participate in NACSIS-ILL payment system, please use the photocopying service.
  • We accept a photocopying request by not only NACSIS-ILL system but also mail, fax, or e-mail. Please use the application form below.
  • If your library does not participate in NACSIS-ILL payment system, payment should be in advanced. We inform the library of the payment information after finishing copying. We send out the photocopy after the payment confirmation.
  • If you need a bill, please inform us in advance.
  • We may not copy the materials such as in collections or damaged.
  • It may take 2 or 3 weeks.

Tour

Reading Room in the Clock Tower open 8:40-21:30 weekday during the class period.

Self-guided Tour

  • Please fill out an “Application Form for Self-guided Tour" at the reception counter on the day of your visit.
  • Library staff will give you a one-day library entry ID. Use the card when entering the library and return it when you leave.
  • Viewing of the library is limited to a period of 20 minutes or less.
  • Please do not take photographs inside the library.

Groups

  • Please contact the library in advance for groups of over 10 people.
  • Please also inquire in advance if you would like to be guided around by a library staff member.
