Using Library Materials
HERMES-Search User Guide
HERMES-Search is a database of all the Library’s materials including e-journals, e-books and various citation information.
You will find search box on the Hitotsubashi University Library website.

Database List
Hitotsubashi University offers a wide variety of databases. In addition to an overview of the databases, information on whether they can be used from off-campus, the number of simultaneous accesses, etc. is also listed. The descriptions of each database are in Japanese only.
Remote Access
Some e-resources (e-journals, e-books, databases) are available from off-campus. Follow the steps here.
Research Guide
A compact guide on how to find literature is available here. Printed copies are also available near the Help Desk on the first floor of the Main Library.

Books introducing Japan in English

Reference books for Japanese thesis writing
We have selected books (in Japanese) from the library’s collection that are useful for writing Japanese-language theses.
Books for the Tadoku to learn Japanese
We have prepared e-books to help you learn Japanese by the Tadoku (extensive reading) method. The list is arranged in order of language levels, so please try to read them. eBooks is available at the KinoDen (Kinokuniya Digital Library) platform. Using Materials From Other Universities
Search for materials held by other institutions
CiNii Books enables you to search for information on books and journals held by university libraries in Japan.
ILL
Materials not held by Hitotsubashi University Library may be borrowed requested photocopies from other libraries (ILL).
The applicant is responsible for the cost of the interlibrary loan.
The library provides a service that allows graduate students to borrow up to 5 books per person via the free interlibrary loan. This service is for loans only.
Visiting Other Libraries
If the materials you require are not held by the library, you may be able to use those items from other libraries.
Please check the website of the university library that holds the materials you wish to use if they are available for use by visitors, and if so, please apply using the form on this page.

Student Purchase Request
Faculty and students can request books (including eBooks) for education and research via Faculty/Student purchase requests. Books purchased are ‘library assets’ available for all users of the Library.
There is a limit to the number of books requested per person. Also, some materials are not available for purchase. Please see here for details.
