  • ILL services and the issue of introduction letters are not available.
  • Databases and electronic materials that are contractually restricted to use only by Hitotsubashi University staff/students may not be used.

Application forms for a Special User ID

An application form can be obtained at the following places in addition to “Place and Hours for Application".

  • Each faculty office (application form for a Special User ID (B) of Hitotsubashi University Library only)
  • The Educational Affairs Section (application form for a Special User ID (A) of Hitotsubashi University Library only)

Alternatives to the official stamp

An official stamp of a graduation certificate can be issued from 9:00 to 17:00 on weekdays. If you cannot visit Hitotsubashi University during this period of time, please submit one of the following together with an unstamped application form for Special User ID (A) of Hitotsubashi University Library or Special User ID (B) of Hitotsubashi University Library.

  • Graduation certificate (you can get this by mail; please refer to the webpage of the Educational Affairs Section (for a bachelor’s degree holder), or the webpage of each faculty (for a master’s or doctoral degree holder))
  • Copy of a diploma
  • Expired user card (renewal of Special User ID (A) of Hitotsubashi University Library, or exchange of Special User ID (B) for Special User ID (A) of Hitotsubashi University Library)

Note

  • If five years or more have passed since you received a doctoral or master’s degree, or completed coursework without a degree, or received a bachelor’s degree, you can only use the same services as external users.
  • Special User Card holders are not required to complete procedures every time they enter the library, so we recommend you to obtain a Card if you plan to use the library regularly.
  • For more information on photocopying materials, please refer to “Photocopy“.
  • If you have unreturned materials while you were a student, we will not be able to issue a special user ID. Please return all materials before applying.

Place and Hours for Application

Counter of Hitotsubashi University Library

Hours: Within opening hours
A Special User ID can be issued on the day an applicant applies for it in person from 9:00 to 17:00 on weekdays. It will be issued later in the cases below, so please wait until you receive a notice that your registration has been completed (you will need to present an ID (driving license, staff ID, passport, etc.) in order to receive your Special User ID at the counter).

  • If you apply after 17:00 on weekdays or on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
  • If you apply by mail.

Chiyoda Campus Library

Only alumni holding a doctoral or master’s degree, or having completed coursework without a degree from the programs offered on Chiyoda Campus can make applications at Chiyoda Campus Library.

Hours: Semester Period Weekdays: 13:15-16:00,17:00-20:00
Vacation Period Weekdays: 11:30-14:30,15:30-18:30

e-Journal

Some are not available to visitors. Please consult with the Reference Service Section.

Academic Theses

  • Only the Hitotsubashi University staff and students can use graduation thesis, master’s thesis, and preliminary doctoral dissertations, which are unpublished works. Approval of the author will be required for use by any other party. Approval of the author will also be required for any copying, irrespective of the organization the user belongs to. Please inquire in advance at the library if you wish to use such materials.
  • If you wish to browse the materials that you wrote, please apply at the counter during the delivery time of “Using the Stack Area".

Valuable Materials

  • Use of valuable materials requires a reservation made at least the day before. Click here for details.
  • For valuable materials that are displayed in the online catalog as being located at “CHSSL Social Science Literature" or “Center for Historical Social Science Literature", please inquire at the Center for Historical Social Science Literature.

Tour

Reading Room in the Clock Tower open 8:40-21:30 weekday during the class period.
Before visiting, please check the opening hours on the library top page.
The movie of the entire Library including the Reading Room is also available. Please watch this.

Self-guided Tour

  • Please fill out a Visitor Application Form at the reception counter on the day of your visit.
  • Library staff will give you a visitor name tag to be worn while viewing the library.
  • Viewing of the library is limited to a period of 20 minutes or less.
  • Please do not take photographs inside the library.

Groups

  • Please contact the library in advance for groups of over 10 people.
  • Please also inquire in advance if you would like to be guided around by a library staff member.
