How to Use

If digital images or microforms are accessible, they should be used instead. The originals may be consulted only when necessary.

Access to rare materials requires an advance reservation. Please contact us via the “Ask a Librarian” form at least 3 business days prior to your visit, as same-day requests cannot be accepted.

Please complete and submit the ”Application Form for Access to Rare Materials” and, if you wish to make copies, the ”Application Form for the Reproduction of Rare Materials.”

You will be notified of the availability date once the condition of the materials has been checked.

Notes

Guidelines for Using Rare Materials

  • Please wash your hands before using rare materials.
  • Rare materials must be used in the designated reading area.
  • Food and drinks are not permitted in the reading rooms.
  • For certain materials, you may be required to use a book stand.
  • Writing in library materials is strictly prohibited.
  • Only pencils of grade B or softer may be used. Please bring your own.
  • Erasers are not permitted.
  • Do not use sticky notes (e.g., Post-it notes).
  • Do not read books on your lap; use a desk instead.
  • Please ensure your hands are clean and dry.
  • Please turn the pages carefully.
  • Do not force pages open or press them down.
  • Do not leave books open and unattended.
  • Do not stack books in piles or place objects on them.
  • Please ask the staff if you need a paperweight when photographing materials.
