Library services available now (Update December 14)

The Library will be open from September 14.
However, in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection, there are restrictions on the opening hours and the number of reading seats.
Please check the following contents before using. Thank you for your cooperation.
If you would like to use the Center for Historical Social Science Literature, the Chiyoda Campus Library, the Institute of Economic Research Library, or the Research Centre of Information and Statistics of Social Science, please visit their websites.

Opening Hour (Update September 17)

*We are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays including class days.
*We are opening on Sep. 21 and 22.

How to Enter

Enter from the entrance gate. (Please bring your student ID, staff ID, etc.)
*You can enter from the front entrance.

Admission

Hitotsubashi University Members ( students, faculty and staff, honorary professor and research fellow)
*Off-campus users, including with a Special User ID, cannot be available.

Precautions for Visitors

  • Please refrain from entering the library if you are unwell, such as fever, cough, or feeling lethargic.
  • You must wear a mask. If you do not wear it, you will not be allowed to enter.
  • Please wash your hands or disinfect your fingers.
  • There are disinfectants for the desk on each floor. Please disinfect by yourself when using the reading seat.

Use of Library Materials

Checkout / Reservation

You can use it as usual.
In order to reduce contact, please use the self-checkout machine if possible.
You can apply the closed stack materials including graduation thesis on the day. (Cannot enter the closed stacks.)
Visiting to the Kodaira Research Library is not available.

Relaxation of the maximum number of books available for checkout

The maximum number of books that can be borrowed is relaxed as follows.
– Undergraduate students: 20 books (Usually 10 books)
– Graduate students: 60 books (Usually 30 books)
– Faculty and staff: 70 books *no change

Relaxation of the maximum number of renewal

Library materials that are not overdue and not reserved can be renewed more than 3 times. We will send you a reminder email 3 days before the due date, so please extend it via MyLibrary. Please return reserved books.

Books can be returned in the return box near the library entrance or by mail. If you want to return books by mail, please contact us.

Microform Materials

Advanced reservations are required. Please send us title and call number of the material, your first and second choice of date and time (10:00,11:00,12:00,13:00,14:00,15:00,16:00) via Ask a Librarian by 4 p.m. on the day before the day of use (weekdays only). Please bring your USB stick to save image files.

Taking Photos of Materials

Advanced reservations are required. Please send us title and call number of the material, your first and second choice of date and time (10:00,11:00,12:00,13:00,14:00,15:00,16:00) via Ask a Librarian by 4 p.m. on the day before the day of use (weekdays only).

Rare Materials

Advanced reservations are required. Please send us title and call number of the material, your first and second choice of date and time (between 10:00 and 17:00) via Ask a Librarian by 4 p.m. on the day before the day of use (weekdays only). If other person has already specified the same date and time, we will contact you.

In principle, the Reading Room is available for online classes.
Please enter the Reading Room from 2nd floor, Main building of the Library.
*The central stairs of the Clock Tower will be closed on September 16.

Interlibrary Loan

Requesting Photocopies from Other Libraries

*You can request via MyLibrary.
*Photocopies can be picked up at the Help Desk on weekdays from 9:30-17:00. Please note that we do not mail them to your home. *For students and faculty members of Kunitachi Campus, we started mailing photocopies of other library’s materials from December 14, 2020.
*Due to circumstances of other libraries, photocopy requests may be declined or taken more time than usual.

Requesting Books on Interlibrary Loan from Other Libraries

*You can request via MyLibrary. Graduate students can use the Public Subsidy Service for Interlibrary Loan.
*Loan requests are limited up to 5 books for each person. After returning all books at the Help Desk, you can add other requests up to 5.
*Books can be picked up at the Help Desk on weekdays from 9:30-17:00. Please note that we do not mail them to your home.
*Due to circumstances of other libraries, loan requests may be declined or taken more time than usual.  

National Diet Library Digital Collections

*Browsing is limited up to 2 hour for each person.
*Advanced reservations are required. Please send us your first and second choice of date and time (10:00,11:00,12:00,13:00,14:00,15:00,16:00) via Ask a Librarian by 4 p.m. on the day before the day of use (weekdays only).
*The library staff make photocopies (for a fee). Photocopies will be ready the next day or later. *All students and faculty members of Hitotsubashi University can use mailing service of photocopies (Please ask to Helpdesk when you use this digital collections).

Measures to prevent infection spread

  • Staff are wearing masks.
  • There are acrylic boards in front of the counters.
  • We disinfect the reading seats once a day.
  • We disinfect printers, copiers, elevators, stair railings, and self-checkout machine three times a day.
  • We place the returned books on the bookshelf after being quarantined for more than 24 hours.
