Library services after April 1(as of June 1)

In order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection, there are restrictions on the opening hours and the number of reading seats.
Please check the following contents before using. Thank you for your cooperation.
If you would like to use the Center for Historical Social Science Literature, the Chiyoda Campus Library, the Institute of Economic Research Library, or the Research Centre of Information and Statistics of Social Science, please visit their websites.

Admission

Hitotsubashi University Members (students, faculty and staff, honorary professor and research fellow) can use the library.

*Other users, including with a Special User ID, cannot enter the library for the present.

Precautions for Visitors

  • Please refrain from entering the library if you are unwell, such as fever (37.5℃ or higher), cough, or feeling lethargic.
  • You must wear a mask. If you do not wear it, you will not be allowed to enter.
  • Please wash your hands or disinfect your fingers.
  • There are disinfectants for the desk on each floor. Please disinfect by yourself when using the reading seat.

Use of Library Materials

Checkout / Reservation

You can use it as usual.
In order to reduce contact, please use the self-checkout machine if possible.

Checkout Limits

It will return to normal from April 1.

  • Undergraduate: 10 books (current: 20 books)
  • Graduated: 30 books (current: 60 books)

If you are borrowing more than the normal limit as of March 31, you cannot borrow books after April 1.
If you want to borrow a new book, return them until the number of books is less than the normal limit.

Extension of Return Dates

It will return to normal(3 times) from April 1.
If you have renewed more than 3 times as of March 31, you will not be able to renew after April 1.

Overdue Penalty

After April 15, penalties will be imposed according to the number of overdue days as the regulation.
If you are unable to return library materials due to unavoidable reasons, please consult the counter.

Mailing Service

The application period will end at 23:59 on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
If you have a situation where you really need mailing service, please contact us via Ask a Librarian.

Return

As in the past, you can use the book return box near the main entrance of the library (available 24 hours a day) or return books by mail. Click here for details.

Stack Area

Closed Stacks access will be reopened for Hitotsubashi University faculty, staff, graduate students, emeritus professors and Recognized Researchers of Hitotsubashi University after April 1. Click here for details.

Microform Materials

Advanced reservations are required. Please send us title and call number of the material, your first and second choice of date and time (10:00,11:00,12:00,13:00,14:00,15:00,16:00) via Ask a Librarian by 4 p.m. on the day before the day of use (weekdays only). Please bring your USB stick to save image files.

Taking Photos of Materials

Advanced reservations are required. Please send us title and call number of the material, your first and second choice of date and time (10:00,11:00,12:00,13:00,14:00,15:00,16:00) via Ask a Librarian by 4 p.m. on the day before the day of use (weekdays only).

Rare Materials

Advanced reservations are required. Please send us title and call number of the material, your first and second choice of date and time (between 10:00 and 17:00) via Ask a Librarian by 4 p.m. on the day before the day of use (weekdays only). If other person has already specified the same date and time, we will contact you.
* Mailing service of photocopy of the rare material will end at 23:59 on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. If you have a situation where you really need mailing service, please contact us via Ask a Librarian.)

Use of Library Facilities

Reading seats

After April 1, the number of available seats will be about half of the total.
Please refrain from crowding the seats as the available seats are spaced apart.
Wearing a mask is still mandatory. Please be aware of the possibility of unexpected sneezing or coughing, and cooperate with us to prevent the spread of infection.
Disinfectant for furniture is available near the stairs on each floor and at the entrance of the Reading Room. Please disinfect the furniture after use.

Group Study Rooms

Temporary closed from April 12, 2021. Click here for details.

After April 1, Group Study Rooms reopen with the following conditions.
Hours of use: Weekdays until 5 p.m.
Capacity: 6 people

Each room is equipped with an acrylic partition.
Wearing a mask is mandatory. Please disinfect the furniture after use.

Clock Tower Commons

Temporary closed from April 12, 2021. Click here for details.

After April 1, Clock Tower Commons reopen with the following conditions.
Hours of use: Weekdays until 5 p.m.
Number of seats: 3 seats for 4 people, 1 seat for 2 people, 4 seats for 1 person

Acrylic partitions are provided.
Please do not move the desks or chairs. Please use the room as it is currently laid out.
Wearing a mask is mandatory. Please disinfect the furniture after use.

PCs

After April 1, free use will be possible.
The number of available seats will be increased, but they will be spaced apart. Please do not crowd the seats.
Wet wipes for sterilization will be placed near the seats for your use. Please disinfect the furniture after use.
Conversation and vocalization are not allowed in the PC seats. If you need to have a conversation, please use the Group Study Rooms or the Clock Tower Commons.

Laptop Computers

No laptop computers are available for loan as of 1 April.

OPAC PCs

After April 1, OPAC PCs are available.
Wet wipes for sterilization will be placed near the PCs. Please disinfect the PC after use.
We also recommend that you continue to use your own smartphone.

Requesting Photocopies from Other Libraries

*You can request via MyLibrary.
*Photocopies can be picked up at the Help Desk on weekdays from 9:00-17:00. Please note that we do not mail them to your home. (If you need it for some special reason, please contact us via Ask a librarian.)
*Due to circumstances of other libraries, photocopy requests may be declined or taken more time than usual.

Requesting Books on Interlibrary Loan from Other Libraries

*You can request via MyLibrary. After April 1, Graduate students can use the Public Subsidy Service for Interlibrary Loan.
*Books can be picked up at the Help Desk on weekdays from 9:00-17:00. Please note that we do not mail them to your home.
*Due to circumstances of other libraries, loan requests may be declined or taken more time than usual.

National Diet Library Digital Collections

*Browsing is limited up to 2 hour for each person.
*Advanced reservations are required. Please send us your first and second choice of date and time (10:00,11:00,12:00,13:00,14:00,15:00,16:00) via Ask a Librarian by 4 p.m. on the day before the day of use (weekdays only).
*The library staff make photocopies (for a fee). Photocopies will be ready the next day or later.
*Please note that we do not mail them to your home. (If you need it for some special reason, please contact us via Ask a librarian.)

Visiting Other Libraries / Letters of Introduction

After April 1, we will resume accepting applications.
Please check the website of the university library that holds the materials you wish to use if they are available for use by visitors, and if so, please apply using the dedicated form on this page.

Measures to prevent infection spread

  • Staff are wearing masks.
  • There are acrylic boards in front of the counters, Group Study Rooms and Clock Tower Commons.
  • We have disinfectants throughout the building. Please disinfect the seats you have used by yourself.
